Hiiumaa, the island of magic, peace, silence, and the most welcoming folk. My project Hiiumaa Village: Mawa Community was welcomed with open arms, and the more heart I put into it, the more connected I feel to the land, the village, and the local community. From Peeter’s weekly smoke Sauna, to the fries on the city square, to Kalle’s care of my home, to the villagers of Malvaste and Mudaste who look after one another - this island is magnificent.
To that end, I am spending my days thinking about the project, and Hiiumaa overall. Recently, I was invited to part-take in the local elections, and my knee-jerk reaction was “I am not a politician”, but on second thought, I felt like this island is perhaps the only place where one can join the local government, make a difference, and not be too engulfed in the political games. Although there is some fear that others might use me for their political games, but I am confident that I can handle it, and keep my independence.
Other than that, I am running events in our space in Tallinn, recording Podcast episodes, and getting ready to be more publicly facing.
This month, I really want to get a caravan for my car, so we can travel around Europe more easily. Most likely an ERIBA 560, Tango Red.
